Alternative Sources of Energy - It’s About Time

By Bob Nesheim

Article published by Rabbi Yitzhak Miller

Believe it or not, high energy costs and global warming are good things. It is because of these factors that there is a renewed interest in alternative sources of energy. Even the U.S. Government is on the bandwagon by earmarking sites it feels will be best suited for the establishment of solar energy generation. Although these solar energy plants won’t be up and running for many years, if at all, at least alternative sources of energy are being seriously considered. All I can say is it’s about time we woke up.

One of the many problems the government faces is how to get the electricity from the solar plants, expected be located in remote areas of the Southwest, to mainstream America. This would require installation of thousands of miles of new power lines to reach the east coast. Obviously that will take some years and cost big bucks. This presents another problem, who is going to pay for all this? However, if money is the biggest concern in converting to alternative sources of energy, it should be the least of our worries.

Estimates are that it will take decades before alternative sources of energy, such as wind or solar power, are able to produce even 20% of U.S. electric demands. So if you’re looking for a quick fix to high energy costs you will need to look elsewhere. An increasingly popular way to help save the environment, and also reduce your electric bill, is the installation of solar panels for your home. Even though solar energy is renewable and free, the technology required to take advantage of this resource is not. A professionally installed solar power system will cost you an arm and a leg. That’s why now, more than ever, homeowners are building and installing their own solar or wind power system.

Besides lowering your utility bill, the advantages of building and installing your own home energy system are many. Homes that take advantage of these alternative sources of energy have higher appraisal values, no fear of power shortages and outages, no fluctuations in electric costs due to rising fossil fuel prices and they are helping to protect our environment as well. In addition, once implemented there are virtually no additional costs involved. The energy is being generated by itself, no other fuel is needed. Except for the rare replacement of a mechanical part in a wind generator, these home energy solutions are maintenance free.

Once installed, these systems can be used for as long as you need them. To make things even better, building and installing a solar or wind power system is not hard and can be completed for a fraction of the cost of a professional installation. In fact, you can build a solar panel or wind generator for less than $200 and most of the parts are readily available at your hardware store. Of course, you can’t tackle this project without a proper set of instructions, a quality do-it-yourself guide is essential. But once you are ready to start all you need is a weekend or two and you’ll be on your way to energy independence. Not only will it save you money but it’s also something you will be proud of.

Rabbi Yitzhak Miller Benefits of Solar Energy

Health Benefits of Solar Energy in the Cold Regions of the World

By Marcellinus Nkpozi

Solar energy does not just provide light energy. One may think of solar energy as a technology to light few bulbs, power the television set, fan, personal computer and maybe, the refrigerator in the home. This is obviously wrong thinking. It is not just about those uses.

Solar energy has some health benefits too. My good friend benefited immensely from it when we stayed in various cities in Israel for the holy pilgrimage by January 2009. My friend is a known bronchial asthma patient of several years duration. When our plane touched down at the Ben Gurion International airport, Tel Aviv, and we got down, I was worried for him. Worried because his health condition often got worse or is triggered by cold weather. However, because of the solar - powered water heater in all the hotels we stayed, he had a hitch-free tour of the holyland. Without the solar - powered water heater, he would have found it extremely difficult to take his bath for the two weeks we stayed in Israel at that time of the year. Coming from a hot and humid West African weather, the Israeli January weather was really harsh to us. It is better imagined than described what could have happened to my friend and other pilgrims with similar health conditions if the solar - powered water heaters were not available.

People with such health conditions as common cold, allergic rhinitis, flu, sinusitis, pneumonia etc which are made worsen by cold weather are ever grateful to solar energy. No wonder, in Israel, more than 98% of the residential houses in the cities have solar - powered water heaters on their roof-tops.

On the other hand, the rest of the christian pilgrims that were not bronchial asthma patients were able to take their daily bathes because of the hot water from the solar - powered water heaters. By taking their baths as is necessary, their personal hygiene was enhanced and their health was boosted

In summary, there is no doubt that solar energy has some significant health benefits in the cold regions of the world.

Richard Kaloust Attract Success

How to Attract Success

By Jesse Grant

Article suggested by Richard Kaloust

We all have a decision to make: To be successful or not successful. Yes, it is a choice. Humans seem to be unique in this respect; they get to decide how hard they will strive. You get to choose if you want to maintain the status quo, or reach for better things.

Plants and animals are much different. Take a flower for example. A flower grows in both ways, down and up. It has an extensive root system that scours the soil to find water and nutrients. They don’t stop growing until they find what they are looking for-twisting and turning around rocks and other barriers to achieve their goal.

The stem of flower, on the other hand, reaches up to the light. It doesn’t matter which way the light comes at a flower, its stem will always orientate in such a manner to catch the most of it, maximizing its situation. But the flower doesn’t stop there. At the pinnacle of growth, it does something amazing: It explodes into color.

A garden of flowers looks like a sky of fireworks. Bright colors of red, orange, purple, and yellow, all of various hues. They extend upward, reaching for the heavens like a glorious and triumphant orchestra. All striving for greatness, for the best vantage point to suck up the rich sunlight.

And there’s more. The scents, wonderful scents fill the air. All the flowers emit potent, lush, radiant scents that waft through the air and fill the noses of fortunate bystanders.

Why do these flowers reach to such wonderful heights year after year? Why do they all strive for excellence and perfection? The answer is simple. The flowers go to such great lengths for one reason only: To attract.

Flowers attract all sorts of attention. Since they are motionless, they must attract the things they need and desire to them. Bees and other pollinators are attracted to their unique bright colors and aromas. They fly through the air for miles to seek out the perfect plant. You see, by constantly reaching for the greatest heights, the flower brings its bounty to him without moving an inch.

And what does the flower do? It rewards the pollinators for their efforts, giving bountiful gifts of sweet nectar and pollen. The flower feeds the world unselfishly, and for that it becomes even more attractive.

Now, the question is, what do we do to attract the things we need and desire to ourselves? Often we sit and wait, and maintain the status quo. We went to school, got a bit of an education, and then entered the workforce. The checks come in, they pay the bills, and we settle. Of course we want more, but hey, maybe it will come down the road. But where is the growth? Where are the bright colors that attract the bounty to us?

To attract more, we have to become more. We have to grow our skill set and knowledge, expand our experiences, continue to learn, and work hard on ourselves. We have to challenge ourselves and continue to seek new heights. Through this, we grow as a people. Our colors shine bright and our power blossoms.

Like the bees, other people are attracted to personal growth. As our skills expand and our knowledge builds, people will take notice. Promotions will come, and pay raises will follow. Or even better, we will start to build our own company and attract hardworking employees and customers to us.

We all have the option to grow and challenge ourselves. It truly is up to each and every one of us. The flower does it naturally, but sometimes we tend to hide our true power. So please, reach for the heights and shine bright. Give generously and help others by passing on the sweet nectar of your experiences.

Top Seven Steps to Success By Richard Kaloust

Top Seven Steps to Success

By Keith Wrigley

1) Change your Thoughts

As a student of personal growth, you may have learned how important your thoughts are to the type of results you are getting in your life. Are you trying everything you can think of to change your life, to make more money, to be a better person, to attract a mate, etc but find that nothing is really working for you? Why can’t you achieve your desires?

Experts agree that you must first try to re-write your mind’s “programming”. You need to eliminate the negative self talk in your head and replace it with more positive thoughts. For example, perhaps one of your “Gremlins” (negative self talk) is the very common “I’m not good enough”. Objectively, you may not think this thought is true, but your subconscious mind believes it.

This example of negative self talk is very powerful and can severely limit your growth. Replace this thought with something like “I deserve all good things coming into my life”. What are your thoughts telling you?

2) Affirm your Direction

To change your thoughts, try using affirmations in a repetitive fashion. For example, say you now make $50,000 per year, but you would like to make $75,000. Try something like “I am very grateful that I now make $75,000 per year.” If your goal is to lose weight, perhaps try something like “I am slim, strong, flexible and sexy!”

This may sound silly to you, but be persistent, post your affirmations on your mirror, and say them several times a day. Stick with these affirmations for days, weeks and months and prepare to be amazed.

3) Set Goals

If you don’t know where you’re going, you might wind up anywhere. Find your core values and figure out what is most important in your life. Then set goals in harmony with your values. Create the life you desire.

Don’t be afraid to think big! Medium goals will get you mediocre results. Once your thoughts and actions become aligned, the universe will provide more than you expected.

4) Get Committed

Achieving success takes passion, drive and commitment. Get in touch with why you want these things you’re striving for. Connect emotionally with what earning your success will mean to you. Use that emotion to fuel the energy to do whatever it takes, one step at a time. Build a burning desire!

5) Be Persistent

The road to success is not a superhighway. There are lots of bumps and obstacles along the way. It’s not always easy; in fact it usually isn’t easy at all. If it were, everyone would be rich.

One of the best things you can do is to expand your “comfort zone”. By this I mean conquering your fears and doing the hard parts, even if it’s scary. In other words, “feel the fear and do it anyway.”

6) Take Responsibility

Once you get clear that you are 100% totally responsible for your life, you’re on your way to better things. Blaming others, like parents, your boss, your spouse, etc will keep you a victim forever.

Realize that it is your choices alone that have made you what you are today. Take your power by saying “I’m responsible for my life” and don’t look back.

7) Practice Gratitude

If you want more good things in your life, try expressing gratitude for what you already have. As you lie down to sleep try telling yourself “I’m so grateful for my life and all the wonderful things I have.” Appreciation for all the good things in your life, which you may take for granted, can open up space for all the new things you desire.
